WELCOME 2012 -END of WORLD--A 2011 Recap.

2011 was a great year it was filled with art, music and photos. I shot some amazing architecturally sound homes, was able to work some great new people. I started venturing in rock photography, I did lots of parties, portrait work, including two weddings, engagement photos and of course my end of the year x-mas parties that feature way too many funny children.

Architecture in Japan

Japanese practice mA-style design of architecture + planning have created 'riverbank house/ kawabe no sumika', a single family home in shizuoka prefecture, japan. located on a confined strip of land, sandwiched between a quiet riverbank and a residential neighborhood, the home is a response to both the contrasting surrounding environment and the site which it sits upon.

dominant and symmetrical in form, the dwelling features two distinctly different facades, altering the overall perception of space and dimensionality. the street side facade, solid and impermeable in its massing refers to its position and immediate context, a busy and noisy environment full of car and pedestrian traffic. smooth and minimal in its expression, the surface aims to conceal any evidence of life and activity taking place within the home. on the opposite side of the structure, a complex set of shapes and openings develop a drastically different sense of space. a collection of terraces extend from each void, integrating the minimal interior rooms with the exterior environment.

Megan Kukull: Featured Nine 8x12 Pop Photo Montage"The Last of the Finest, Signs on T-town".

Vintage and retro signs in Tacoma, Washington are truly some of the last of the finest, the signs explore nostalgia, social themes, and are sought over by may collectors. In my pieces I incorporated hidden Art Nouveau film and Old Americana Film themes by using collage techniques. I used saturation of color to create a surreal or obscene image of the signs. By combining this imagery I was able to show the signs' relationship to society and explore the new world images of POP art and the importance of iconic graphic symbols in society.

Architectural Photography Film

Watched a really great documentary about the most famous architectural photographer -- Julius Shulman. The movie had me so inspired by the modern architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and all of the other amazing architects that started the Modernism movement on the West Coast. Using natural light and the environment to create living space is something that unites perception and understanding for the buildings and their place in the landscape. It reinforced how much I love taking photos of homes and spaces.

Julius Shulman obituary: The obituary of photographer Julius Shulman in the July 17 Section A said that his image of Case Study House #22 first appeared in the Sunday Pictorial section of the Los Angeles Herald Examiner two months after it was taken on May 9, 1960. The Sunday Pictorial was a feature of the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper, which merged with the Herald Express in 1962. However, according to the Getty Research Institute, where Shulman's archives are kept, the photo first appeared in the June 1960 issue of Arts & Architecture magazine.

Mathew Barney's Cremaster Cycle

Playing at SIFF Cinema April 9-15

'Art Star' Mathew Barney's Cremaster Cycle is An intricate and eye-popping blend of Masonic lore, Celtic myth, historical and biological arcana, and film genres ranging from thriller to western to musical and points in between, the Cremaster Cycle is a vast five-part achievement of nerve and style.

Filmed out of order (4, 1, 5, 2, 3) over nine years and named after the muscle that regulates the height of the testicles in the body based on outside temperature or inner emotions, it has been called, “The greatest fusion of Art and Cinema since Un Chien Andalou.” Cremaster is not now, nor will it in the foreseeable future, be available on DVD, meaning that the only way for fans to see it again, or for people who have only heard about it to actually see it, is on the big screen.

Krazy about K

"K as a substitute for C is often used to sound cute and colloquial but frequently comes out corny. In a Texas town I recently spotted a shop called Komputer Korner. Poet Ezra Pound’s mock cowboy tones showed up in the title of his 1938 book of essays, Guide to Kulchur.".
